Activities
Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned adventurer, Moab has something in store for you.
Moab First Timer
If it’s your first time in Moab, you’re in for a treat. From hiking in peaceful slick-rock canyon to 4x4 Jeeps in the desert, there’s something for everyone.
Hike Corona Arch or Fisher Towers
Free
Corona Arch and Fisher Towers are excellent beginner hikes. The first is our favorite Arch in Moab. It makes for an easy mid-day hike across a beautiful slick-rock canyon expanse ending with a massive arch— perfect for pics!
The second offers expansive views of Castle Valley as you hike beneath thousand foot towers. You may even see climbers scaling “Ancient Art.”
Visit Canyonlands or Arches
$
Canyonlands and Arches draw millions of people to Moab every year. When you visit you’ll understand why. We recommend Canyonlands— Island in the Sky— for a driving tour with vista stops along the way.
We recommend Arches if you’re looking to stop for short hikes during the day. Canyonlands is generally quieter, while Arches will need reservations.
Ride along in a guided Jeep tour
$$
Moab is a destination for 4x4 Jeeping and UTVs. There are thousands of miles of remote desert roads to explore.
Many companies in town offer tours of the most popular trails where you can ride along with an expert driver. Our recommendations are below.
Weekend Warrior
If you’ve been to the National Parks and you’re looking to explore somewhere new, try getting off the beaten path.
Hike Grandstaff Canyon
Free
Grandstaff Canyon winds through a beautiful slick-rock canyon along a babbling creek before ending at Morning Glory Bridge. If you’re lucky, you’ll see canyoneers rappelling down from above.
Take a dip at Mill Creek
Free
Generally considered a moderate hike, this 1.6 mile out and back trail takes you from pure desert to a clear water oasis. Take a dip and cool off in one of the numerous swimming holes.
Rent mountain bikes
$$
Mountain biking is the main reason we come to Moab. The trails are world class and the views cannot be beat. If it’s your first time, the Bar M Trail north of town is a good place to start. Tell the folks at the bike shop what difficulty you’re looking for and they’ll steer you in the right direction. There are plenty of places to rent in town, but Rim Cyclery is our favorite.
The Adventurer
For those looking for something a little spicier, we’ve got you covered.
Hike to Hidden Valley petroglyphs
Free
Hidden Valley is our favorite trail close to town. After a steep hike at the start you’ll hit smooth single track running along a beautiful valley that ends near a cliff home to a number of petroglyph panels. If you make it that far, remember to never touch or disturb any of the panels. If you’re going to make the trip, ask us, and we’ll point you in the right direction. 6 miles — 3 hrs
Skydive over Canyonlands
$$$
If you’ve always wanted to skydive, this might be the place to do it. You’ll meet at Canyonlands airport before flying up to 13,000 feet and taking a leap!
UTV to “Chicken Corners”
$$$
Driving out to Chicken Corners is an adventure. You’ll climb up and over Hurrah Pass, you can visit a network of caves out in the middle of the desert, and you’ll end with a view high over the Colorado River.
We recommend renting a UTV with a big suspension system and packing a lunch for a picnic at the end of the road.
The Glamper
If you’re looking for something a little less physical and a little more luxurious, try out these options.
Yoga & Meditation
Free
Red Cliffs Lodge offers free sunrise yoga and meditation classes for all guests. Teachers are from the Desert Power Studio in downtown Moab where classes are also available.
Horseback Riding
$$
You won’t have to go far from Red Cliffs Lodge to connect with your inner cowboy. The horses live on property and guided rides through Castle Valley are offered multiple times per day. Giddy up!
Spa Day
$$$
Massages are available at both Red Cliffs Lodge and Sorrel River Ranch. Sorrel River is just down the road and has a spectacular setting along the Colorado River.
